Terry Fox Run

We have two events planned this year:

  • On Tuesday, a Terry Fox ambassador will visit to share Terry’s story at a whole-school assembly
  • On Thursday, we will run for Terry!
  • If you wish to make a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research, we will be collecting “Twoonies for Terry” at the school. Families who prefer to donate online can do so here: https://schools.terryfox.ca/136466. Donations made to this site will be added to our school-wide total.

Welcome Back Picnic – Thursday, Sept. 24, 5:00-7:00

Come join Riverbend families in this "bring your own picnic" event. We will meet on the SE side of the school near the Riverbend playground. Lemonade and watermelon will be served, courtesy of School Council.

Our Meet the Teacher open house will occur concurrently with the picnic. Teachers will be in their classrooms between 5:30-6:30. Stop by and say hello!

See below in the School Council section for more details.

Jeff Stockton Residency

We are thrilled to welcome storyteller and musician Jeff Stockton to Riverbend this week! Thank you to our School Council for their support in making this special learning experience possible for our students.

Over the next few weeks, Jeff will be working with students to bring the art of storytelling and story writing to life. Please save the date for a wrap up of the residency with a Family Night on October 8th from 6:00–7:00 p.m.

Air Quality in Riverbend

Air quality has been an ongoing concern due to the ECCO Recycling Facility fire. We want to assure families that student health and safety are a priority and school staff monitor air quality conditions throughout the day. Last Tuesday, we made the call to bring students in from the lunch recess due to the air quality outdoors.

We will continue to monitor conditions closely and adjust our response as needed. Thank you for your support and understanding.

From School Council:

Last Thursday was our first School Council meeting of the year and what a fantastic turnout! Participants got a sneak peek at some of the items Council recently funded: one piece of the new library furniture upgrade, a ukulele storage cart, JUMP math books and visual journals. The next meeting will be Thursday, October 15th - mark it on your calendar!

See you at the Welcome Back Picnic on Thursday!
