Thank you to all of our students for a great first week of school! It was wonderful to see students excited and engaged in learning right from our first day. 

You may have noticed that our class configurations are different from last year. We have organized our classes to ensure students have opportunity to work in small groups with additional teaching staff to support in literacy and numeracy. You will notice that many students are shifting into smaller groups during literacy and math learning times, reducing class sizes during this critical learning. Students gather back into larger groups later in the day for other subject areas. By organizing efficiently and strategically, we are maximizing teacher time for instruction and intervention support. 

Our School Council is hosting a welcome-back picnic next Thursday, Sept. 11^th from 5:30-7:00 and we will host an open-house “Meet the Teacher” event at the same time. Come on out, visit and meet your Riverbend School community! No appointment is required – simply drop in between 5:30-7:00 pm to see your child(ren)’s classroom and meet the teachers. We look forward to connecting with you on Thursday!

Morning Entry 

Our student door monitors are on hand every morning to open doors at 7:57. If the doors are open, please come on in! Doors will close very shortly after the 8:00 bell, as this signals the beginning of learning time. If you arrive after 8:00 and the door is closed, please have students proceed to our front doors (east side) and visit Ms. Allen for a welcome slip. 

Traffic & Parking 

We have a few requests to keep our students safe while arriving and departing from school: 

• Please use the angle parking for quick drop-offs in the morning. If you prefer to walk your child to their door, we ask that you park on the street or in the community centre lot. While not enforceable, this helps traffic flow during busy times and is safer for our students. 
• Be mindful of crosswalks, driveways, and the alley drop off area, particularly as the mornings get darker into the fall. We love that many of our students walk or bike to school and we want them to be safe.

Welcome Back Picnic - Pack a picnic, your family members, grab a blanket or chairs (and maybe some bug spray) and let’s all gather! We will provide iced tea & watermelon for all (while supplies last).

Meet with your child(ren)’s classmates, friends and get to know their parents.  

We are excited to host this Welcome Back celebration!  

School Council Meeting - Please join us for our first meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30pm. We are the voice of the parents and guardians of our school, and we are focused on supporting and enhancing our children’s school experience. At the meeting, we will discuss exciting plans for the year ahead. Feel free to come a few minutes early at 6:15pm to connect with our Principal, Assistant Principal, and other parents. See you then!
