This week we honored Truth and Reconciliation week by getting outside on the land, engaging with Indigenous-authored texts and art and wearing orange as we deepen our understanding of Indigenous knowledge and culture. While this is work we weave in throughout the year, this week is highlighted with the observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday.

Our community also came together for the annual Terry Fox run. This year’s message was “Finish It!” focusing on perseverance. Our students raised approximately $1005 for the Terry Fox Foundation, while running in honor of Terry. Thank you, Riverbend School community!

Community Education Services

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.

Attached is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Along with the poster, additional session details are available here.

Jacket Racket

Last year, thanks to the participation of 50 + schools and businesses supporting Jacket Racket, they were able to fill requests for winter wear for just over 2000 students. Riverbend School is once again collecting donations of gently used winter gear – jackets, snowpants, gloves, scarves and toques. These will be re-distributed by Jacket Racket to families in need throughout the Calgary region.

If your child(ren) are in need of winter gear, please contact Mrs. Poole.
