Last Thursday, we had our final School Council meeting of this school year. This dedicated group of parent volunteers are behind all the “extras” we offer at Riverbend. They organized fundraising initiatives to offset field trip costs and provided enhancements this year including our Yellow Steps residency, Elev8 Lacrosse and swim lessons. Funds were provided for art supplies, personalized learning tools and library books. They are also the organizers of special events such as the welcome back picnic, Halloween dance, winter craft night and the upcoming Stampede Caravan pancake breakfast.

We have begun planning for the 2026-27 school year already, and School Council has generously supported new initiatives as we start thinking about next year. The next meeting will be on September 17th – come on out and meet your new Council! All parents/guardians with a child at Riverbend are automatically members and welcome at the meetings.

A huge thank you goes to our outgoing Co-Chairs, Christine and Candace, for all their work the past three years, and to all the executive who are new or continuing in their roles.

Gratitude goes out from all staff to our Council for providing the delicious Staff Appreciation Lunch on Friday. Thank you!

My Transit Ride

In August, the CBE, CCSD and Calgary Transit will offer a transit bus orientation program called "My Transit Ride" for middle and high school students transitioning to Calgary Transit.

The program is about an hour long and consists of a 20-minute presentation by Calgary Transit, followed by an orientation of a transit bus. Staff from CBE Transportation, CCSD Transportation and Calgary Transit will be available for information and/or questions.

Sessions are free but families are encouraged to register to attend. Registration will open on Monday, May 25.

We are excited to offer this safety training and transit orientation to increase student comfort levels and ability to ride Calgary Transit safely and efficiently.

More information and resources can be found on the CBE webpage, Calgary Transit Orientations.

Celebrate Indigenous Peoples History Month in June

CBE’s Indigenous Education is sharing additional information as an invitation to all staff, students, and families to join in celebrating National Indigenous Peoples History Month in June, National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, and Aboriginal Awareness Week in Calgary June 15-21.

Calgary & Area Events: These amazing community events are being organized to support all Calgarians to engage with and learn through Indigenous languages, stories, dances, and more. All are welcome.

From School Council:

Stampede Caravan Pancake Breakfast  - Tuesday, June 2

Students should report to class first for attendance, then we will head outside for breakfast. Families may wait outside until you see your child’s class come out. Bring your water bottle for this Riverbend School tradition!

Information poster attached

Please note: the pancakes have dry eggs, dry milk and flour. The sausage is halal turkey. The Stampede Caravan is not able to accommodate dietary preferences and due to their mobile system, they are unable to guarantee food to be gluten free. If your child is not able to have these items, you are welcome to send food from home for them to have with their classmates.

*Classes heading out on field trips that day will eat first*
