Our theme this week is gratitude for our volunteers – from those who joined us on our Yellow Steps outdoor adventures all week, to the ones sorting cookie dough and to all those family and community members who worked into the wee hours at the REPS casino fundraiser. We appreciate your ongoing support!
If you were out and about in Riverbend this week, you might have seen grade one students rolling giant snowballs in the greenspace towards the rock, enjoying the perfect snow as they learned about natural features and landmarks that hold significance. Our kindergarten classes have been exploring the learning garden – checking out tracks in the snow, scat and other evidence of creatures that inhabit the area. Grade two students trekked into Carburn Park on a snowy morning and saw four deer crossing the ice on the pond. Photo Retake Day
Re-takes are on Tuesday, December 9th. Students who were absent on photo day and those who have returned re-take forms will be photographed. Please call the office if you have any questions.
Book Fair
Mrs. Simon still needs a couple adult volunteers to help with book fair sales during the Winter Craft Night. School volunteer clearance is not required. If you can help, please sign up here.
Recess sales are available to grades 3-6 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Cookie Fundraiser Pizza Party & Prizes
Our students earned a pizza party from School Council for their efforts in the cookie dough fundraiser. The pizza party will be Friday, December 19th. All students will receive a lunch unless you opt out via the blue notice sent home last week. We will announce prize winners on this day as well.
Spirit Days
Our Junior Leaders have come up with some school-wide spirit days for the last week of school, as follows:
Monday Dec. 15: Switch Day
Tuesday Dec. 16: Anything but a Backpack Day
Wednesday Dec. 17: Red and Green Day
Thursday Dec. 18: Holiday Spirit Wear
Friday Dec. 19: Pajamas and Stuffies
There will be in-school announcements from our Junior Leaders explaining the days, starting on Wednesday. If you are unsure about a day, please ask your child to connect with their teacher.

Popcorn Snack and Hot Lunch
The deadline for ordering for this month's popcorn recess snack is December 9, for snack on the 17th. The deadline for ordering Boston Pizza chicken fingers and fries is December 11, for lunch on the 18th. Both can be ordered on the hot lunch website.
Winter Craft Night
Thursday, December 11th. This event is for current Riverbend students and their families. Parent supervision is required. No drop-offs.
